Causes of cracked heels

Cracked heels can occur due to various reasons:

2. Excessive pressure: Wearing open backs or high heels puts extra pressure on the feet, which can lead to cracked heels.

5. Prolonged standing: Certain jobs that involve standing or walking for long periods of time can cause cracks in the heels due to increased stress on the feet.

6. Health problems: Conditions like diabetes, thyroid problems, and skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema can increase the likelihood of cracked heels.

7. Ill-fitting shoes: Wearing shoes that do not fit properly or lack sufficient support can put stress on the feet and compress the heels, leading to cracked skin.

Ways to heal cracked heels

To heal cracked heels caused by dry skin, try the following remedies:

1. Wash your feet well: Use warm water and mild soap to wash your feet. Gently massage them, but avoid soaking them for too long to prevent damage to the skin barrier and excessive moisture loss.

2. Coconut oil: Coconut oil is known for its moisturizing properties. Apply coconut oil or pure coconut oil on your cracked heels to help moisturize and promote the formation of new skin cells.

3. Foot masks: Create a foot mask using natural ingredients such as honey, yogurt, banana peels, or aloe vera gel. Apply the mask on your feet and leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes before washing it off. These ingredients can help moisturize your skin.

4. Wear socks: After soaking your feet in lukewarm water for 15 to 20 minutes, gently dry them and put on socks before going to bed. This will help seal in the moisture after washing your feet.

5. Kokum butter: Kokum butter is commonly used in soaps and lotions. Apply kokum butter directly to your heels or mix it with your preferred oil. You can also apply kokum butter and then wear cotton socks to enhance its effectiveness.

In addition to moisturizing your feet regularly and wearing high heels less frequently, remember to exfoliate your heels to remove dead skin cells that may contribute to cracking. However, be cautious not to overdo it, as excessive exfoliation can worsen the issue.
